The idea of a cruise makes most people imagine of tropical holidays filled with great sea adventures. Before you book a cruise holiday, it is important to plan properly as this is not like the regular holidays you've had. Here is short list of tips for taking a cruise that will help you to avoid potential headaches.
1. Should you use a travel agent?
There are many travel companies which offer holiday services and are prepared to make your planning easy. If you choose to use them, make sure you select a company that will get you a good cruise travel package. For example, some companies offer discounted packages and these will cut down your expenses. A ticket price which is all inclusive of other cruise activities can reduce the expenses of having to pay extra fees.
2. How long will your cruise holiday be?
Take into account the length of your vacation. If you several weeks off, you can go for 7-10 day cruises but if you have a week or less, 3-5 day short cruises can still pack a lot of fun. The length of the cruise also determines the expenses and the sites that you will see. Get a travel map from the cruise liner to know what destinations you will visit during your cruise.
3. What about clothes?
As you pack for the trip, consider the weather conditions of the destinations that you will be visiting. For example, if you are going on an Antarctic cruise, your clothing should include jackets with insulated layers, warm sweaters, gloves, socks, head covers like hats which cover the ears. Footwear should also serve the same purpose and also be waterproof.
4. Getting lost on the ship?
If you book a large cruise ship, you may not be able to easily find your way around. This can prevent you from enjoying all the onboard events and activities. To prevent this, ask for a map when you board the ship, memorize landmarks in the ships, avoid using the elevators when you can and try to learn some ship lingo such as starboard, port, muster station and aft.
In case you are lost, ask the crew members for directions. They will gladly help you as they want you to experience a great vacation.
Going on a cruise vacation is a great experience, whether you are traveling alone, with your spouse or with the whole family. During your cruise, you are likely to visit many beautiful exotic islands, see wildlife, come across natural sea features and gaze at the stars during the night. Carry your digital camera with extra rechargeable batteries, along with a pair of binoculars in order not to miss these sights. This will make the voyage even more memorable after your vacation comes to an end.
