World Cruises – Which Cruise Line Is the Most Luxurious?

Silversea Cruises have accrued a considerable reputation for ultra-luxury and sheer high end quality over the last decade. Voted the "World's Best" cruise line nine years in a row by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler and seven years running by Travel & Leisure magazine, Silversea Cruises combines large-vessel facilities across their fleet of four specially designed intimate vessels.

With a crew-to-guest ratio that's nearly one to one, Silversea Cruises target the top end of the cruise market, with staff trained by The Leading Hotel Schools of the World association.

Silversea partnered with the internationally acclaimed Grand Chefs of Relais & Châteaux group to design and deliver a unique menu of signature dishes each night in their all inclusive gourmet dining room, The Restaurant.

Unlike many other cruise lines, there is an open seating policy, which provides more dining flexibility than you may be used to on mass market tours.

As you may expect from the wallet denting prices, Silversea offers virtually any leisure activity you might ever wish to indulge in. For pure relaxation, the Spa at Silversa offers a relaxing and rejuvenating sanctuary that specializes in Balinese massage treatments complete with steam baths, saunas and an outdoor whirlpool overlooking the ocean.

There are the usual wine tastings and gourmet cooking classes, as well as lectures by famous guest speakers. And to work off the extra calories, there's a jogging track round the entire promenade, or a quiet pool by the state-of-the-art fitness center.

But the main reason to go ultra-luxury after all is the level of service and facilities on offer, and this is where Silversea really shine. All the accommodation is organized in suites, with ocean views from your furnished, private teak balcony.

Lounging areas, complete with walk-in cupboards complete your marble bathroom helping you laze in your full size bathtub and luxury bathroom amenities. Sumptuous linens, plush mattresses and even a choice of your favorite pillow guarantee a great night's sleep.

Silversea has two main liners – the Silver Spirit and the Silver Whisper.

The Silver Spirit

The Silver Spirit entered service in December 2009, and marked a new generation in luxury cruise ships. Larger than the rest of the fleet, with more balconies, dining choices and on board facilities, the Silver Spirit has become a popular choice for world cruises. Small enough to access remote ports yet large enough to accommodate all the staff who maintain the impossible levels of six-star level luxury for which the line is renamed.

The vessel contains six restaurants ranging from contemporary international cuisine to intimate multi course culinary experiences from a set tasting menu, complemented by all inclusive fine wines.

The Spa at Silversea offers 8,300 square feet of sheer indulgence with floor-to-ceiling windows, nine different treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor relaxation zones, a sauna, steam rooms and even an outdoor whirlpool to watch the world float by.

The Silver Spirit will be setting sail with her 540 guests on her maiden world voyage in 2011, circumnavigating the globe over the 119-day world tour.

The Silver Whisper

Launching in 2001, the Silver Whisper was specifically designed to provide the most intimate sailing experiences, with far fewer meals on board than even most luxury lines.

The Silver Whisper has a similarly high level of dining, entertainment and recreational options to it's sister ship, but in more spacious surroundings with fewer guests aboard. There is the same open-seating dining policy and three gourmet restaurants to enjoy, including custom designed tasting menus of dishes inspired by the regions you'll be cruising through.

The large pool deck has beautiful teak loungers plus a heated pool and whirlpools, with attentive staff always at the ready just when you need that fresh towel and your favorite beverage.

Enrichment is a fundamental concept on every Silversea cruise and you can enjoy lectures, workshops and demonstrations on wine tastings and local cuisine giving you quite literally the flavor of the many ports you pass through around the world.

The Silver Whisper will embark on a 115-day world cruise in 2012, taking its smaller contingent of just 382 guests through tranquil Polynesian islands, wild Australian landscapes, exotic ports in Southeast Asia, to ancient Arabia and Egypt and the Mediterranean.
